Now we know why...

Yeah. Now we know why John McCain picked Sarah Palin as his running mate.

Every time someone criticizes anything she says, or says anything that can be remotely interpreted as a criticism of her, the Republicans can jump up and down and yell, "Sexism!"

The latest is how Obama characterized some of the McCain proposals as "putting lipstick on a pig", and the Republicans are trying to turn that into "Obama called Palin a pig."

Jeez. Are you falling for that? Because I'm not.

Well, Mr. McCain, you need to put that sexism card away, along with the POW card. They are both old and tired. But, I suppose you are afraid that you'll lose on the issues and have to cobble up some kind of controversy in order to try to gain the sympathy vote.

I've got to go back to work now, but I had to get this said.

I think I need to quit watching the news; it gets me too riled up.

I think it's slightly broader than just sexism - I think he picked her specifically to increase the cognitive dissonance you'd need in order to take his campaign seriously (hey, it's possible: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dan-sweeney/theres-no-arguing-with-co_b_126805.html). Palin's ovaries are certainly, as you say, part of this, because they allow McCain to say that he's being gender-forward (or whatever) and that Obama is being sexist even though he can't come up with any real evidence in that direction. But I think it's only part of it: her lack of experience is supposed to mirror his, her charisma is supposed to mirror his, etc. Basically, she's supposed to be at once a vindication of Obama and an indicator of everything that's wrong with him. The problem, though, is that there's way more crazy stuff with Palin that just doesn't track to Obama, which we're slowly starting to find out.
